To attempt to understand what is going on in my one year old’s head, I sometimes have to try and think like a one year old and make hypotheses. This past Tuesday at about 4pm, Ali went and stood at the window at which she always watches for Daddy to come home and started saying “Daddy! Daddy!”. I thought about it, and I supposed that she thinks that since I always tell her “Daddy’s coming home! Let’s go watch for him!” and then he does, that I make something happen by speaking it forth and acting on it. It makes sense! So all afternoon she kept trying to speak Daddy home.

Then, today, we went to get in the car to go to work for a few minutes, and as soon as I put her in the car, she started saying (in a really excited voice), “AJ!! AJ!!”, and said it all the way to work. I tried to tell her that we were going to work, not to see AJ, but she didn’t seem to believe me. Sure enough, she was a little fussy all afternoon – I can only assume because she was disappointed that the magic hadn’t worked for her like it always does for Mommy.

Everytime Mommy says something, it happens. Ali has definitely figured that out (as proven last week when I told her we were going to work, and then to Gramamma’s, and the whole time we were at work, she kept telling everyone “bye-bye”, saying “mamama”, and pointing at and crawling toward the door). So it makes sense that if Mommy can perform this amazing magic, why can’t Ali? When she gets a little older (maybe 2 or 3), we’ll talk about name it and claim it theology and why that’s not exactly what God meant when He said “Ask and it will be given unto you”. :)

  1. Awe. She’s at a good age. She just wants to see her daddy and AJ. You should get her to want to see GINA. :)

    HAHA. :)
