Dear Chris,

For all of those times that I marveled at why you were STILL playing on your iPhone even though much more interesting things were going on…

For all those times I snarkily laughed and rolled my eyes at all of the $0.99 iTunes charges on your credit card…

For all those times where I rolled over huffily in the bed, trying to fall asleep by the light of your iPhone…

I’m sorry.

Because now, I understand.

Since the delivery of my iPhone on Thursday, I have..

  • Played up to seven concurrent games of Words with Friends (aka Scrabble) with other iPhone users (I’m ObjectivityRach).
  • Figured out how to sync my Facebook friends with my contacts so that my Facebook profile pictures pop up when one of them calls me.
  • Set up my pregnancy to be tracked to the minutest details. On my phone.
  • Built a metropolis in Sim City.
  • Taken, edited, and published pictures, all from my phone.
  • Had a video conversation with Chris and Ali with the click of a button.
  • Spent a bit too much of a percentage of my life on my phone, but yet not talking on it.
  • Downloaded three free games for Ali, of which I’m not yet sure was a brilliant move or a rookie mistake.

And I haven’t even learned 1% of my new toy’s capabilities yet. Your input into my new obsession is quite welcome – favorite apps? Favorite features?

On a completely separate note, as you may already know, I like to get to know my readers. But there’s a couple of new commenters out there that your names don’t link back to your blog, if you have one. You may have it set that way on purpose, but I’ve found most people don’t realize it when that’s the case. So, if I haven’t been by to visit your blog and you like visitors, check and see – you can test it by logging out of Google, then clicking on your name on a comment on someone else’s blog.

Also – When I respond to comments, I typically do it via email if I already have your email address or if it’s linked on your comment. If you want to know how to do this, you can go to edit your profile –> email address. By putting an email address in there, it allows other bloggers to reply to your comments. Or, you could just email me your email address.

Of course, if you don’t want to do any of this at all, by all means ignore it. I just wanted you to know why I haven’t said “hey” if indeed I haven’t said “hey”.

Okay, enough housekeeping. My iPhone is calling me. What should I try next?

  1. Hilarious!
I love my iPhone waaaaay too much too! :)
Cant wait to get my new one!
You might enjoy Awesome Note, since you like lists and all! Oregon Trail game is pretty fun too…just like the old computer game!

  2. I LOVE words with friends, send me a game invite, my username/nickname (can't remember what they call it) for the game is "Mrs. Sporkwire".

Words with Friends, Kaglom, and Angry Birds are the only games I've played.

Luke loves Animatch, and all the free shapes & numbers games for toddlers.

  3. My boys love Angry Birds. And there are some great coloring and ABC ones Ki plays. But it's Mike's iPod Touch and he has it. And I'm too lazy to look in iTunes right now…

  4. I can't imagine how I ever did without an iPhone, and Words With Friends has got to be my favorite app. Have 8 games going on right now. My user ID is kbeauinal.

  5. I don't know how I lived before iphone :). Apps that are a big time suck: Google Reader, iGoogle, Facebook. Games: Solitare, Bejeweled 2, Sudoku. Apps for my convenience redbox, shazam, pandora, i heart radio, zillow, urban spoon, bump, iDict, WebMd, FML, Goodreads, IMDb, What to Expect Pregnancy.

  6. Too funny. I feel the same way about my husband's iPad… well and his iPhone too. Unfortunately for me getting one is not an option – my work provides me with a BlackBerry… so I'll just have to wonder what all of you find so entertaining!

  7. No iphone for me, I'm a blackberry girl! But the iphone, I must say, is very awesome! I play on Christens alot!!! Hope you enjoy it! :)

  8. I am jealous. I have been resisting the temptation to get one for about a year now. I don't know how much longer I can hold out.

  9. I don't have one but T does and is constantly asking if he should get me one since I'm always stealing his…as I type this on it right now. Haha:) I just found an awesome app called Red Laser. You scan bar codes and it tells you where else you could buy it using the GPS and for how much. It saves you the leg work!

  10. I'm not allowed to have an iPhone :( I'm not so good with phones. The husband had to take me to the TMobile store for a new phone after I busted the last one in less than a year. He said that if I break this one then he will buy me a bottom of the line, no internet/no photo/no game, phone call only phone. Then he proceeded buy things to wrap it in rubber and protective shields and all.
    I want an iPhone!

  11. I don't have an iPhone — I have a Droid (Verizon). The first thing that I did was accessorize it with a skin from decalgirl dot com. My kindle ebook reader and my Droid now match. *grin*

The really cool thing about the skins is that they also email you a custom background so that the background of your phone exactly matched up with the skin on the outside of your phone.

It also serves the purpose of differentiating my Droid from the husband's Droid. Otherwise I'd be grabbing the wrong phone constantly.

I am not sure if th iPhone has it but there is an app out there called Toddlerlock which turns on a drawing program and locks the rest of your phone, so your toddler can amuse themselves with making shapes and sounds without accidently exiting hte program and dialing someone long distance. It is made for younger kids, but it manages to keep even my 4 year old amused for long car rides.

  12. Hey Rachel,

How are you? It's been awhile since I've been here. My blog tells why today in a post I wrote last night. Life has been busy. Anyway, it's always great reading your blog.

Your iPhone sounds amazing. I have an iPod Touch that is a lot of fun, but not the phone. I should have invested in one when I flushed my old phone down the toilet quite literally. It was a mistake keeping it in a shallow pocket.

    Blessings & Hugs,
    Carol

P.S. Yes, I know you know Rhoda and I will be seeing you both one day. :-) My girlfriend is Alabama-bound this very weekend. Her hubby is picking her up, their 4 kids and packing the U-Haul. They'll leave all of us in tears after fireworks on the 4th. We'll miss them so much, but your state will be gaining a great family.

  13. That is why I don't own an iphone. I know I would never get off the darn thing. I have a hard enough time with the computer and the laptop. I'm not adding anything.

  14. I think I'll do a blog post about this, so I won't take up a huge amount of space in your comments section. I have an iPod touch, but my husband has an iPhone. I like to call his phone "Your mistress." He's NEVER w/o it.

  15. My daughter just got one too and she keeps telling me about new apps and this and that and I don't understand! Now I understand.
