Okay, so I’m going through a difficult phase.

Or maybe “High Maintenance” is a better way to describe it.

My husband, being high in mercy that he is, calls it a “particular phase”.

I’m not usually terribly opinionated about where to eat or what to watch, but the last few times we’ve gotten a movie or gone to the movies (which isn’t that often), I’ve had an aversion to any and all movies that weren’t comedies.

I just can’t get excited about them. I don’t know why – I used to like dramas and actions and stories and so on. But lately, that part of my brain seems to be shut off.

A great comedy we watched recently because of this was Ghost Town. It was a brilliantly quirky and surprisingly clean movie (although bit of language) – we loved it!!

We had never heard of it, but I was desperate to find a comedy, and unlike me, the movie industry is NOT going through a “particular” comedy phase. So, thanks to my phase, we watched a brilliant, yet terribly underadvertised movie.

Tonight, we watched The Devil Wears Prada. Also a fun movie.

However, as you can imagine, it was not my sweet husband’s first choice.

So, survey question for today:

1. What genre of movies do you like to watch right now? Ever get stuck in a “particular phase”?

2. What good movies have you seen lately?? And don’t just stick with comedies. . . I promised my husband that this was the LAST time I would insist on a comedy. So I need some good movie suggestions for our next movie – maybe if I start to get excited about them now, it will be easier to swallow later.

  1. I like comedies too especially romantic comedies. So I probably wouldn’t have any suggestions besides that. And that’s pretty much all that I like.
The last movie that I watched was Chasing Papi. It’s a good movie.

  2. I loved the Devil Wears Prada. Cute movie.

I haven’t watched any “new” movies lately, so I don’t have suggestions for you.

Last night, I stayed up to watch, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”. I’d seen it a couple times before, but that movie is funny.

I can tell you two movies that I didn’t like, that everyone else did. Baby Mama and Juno. Baby Mama was just very annoying to me. And Juno… wasn’t funny. Kinda sad, really.

If I think of anything, or watch something new, I’ll let you know.

  3. I’m not a big movie watcher, but I’ve noticed the same thing with my late night TV watching. I still love the dramas during prime time, but I used to watch MASH each night when I went to bed, but now I’m loving the comedies. Must be because of how dismal the economic times are right now.

  4. First, let me preface my comment by saying my taste in movies runs a bit contrary to popular opinion, mostly because I just don’t like spending my time or money with things that fill my mind with filth.

I don’t have a whole lot to time these days to watch movies, so I don’t think I have a chance to get stuck in a phase. I am a fan of romantic comedies, but I also love movies set in a different historical time period. Most recently, I fell in love with “The Phantom of the Opera” starring Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum.

“One Night with the King” is a great movie based on Esther.

Several years ago I watched “Anna and the King” and it was spectacular! It had drama, romance, suspense, and was very clean. It is NOT a chick flick, so Chris would probably like it.

Oh, a guy movie that Chris would probably like, and y’all probably have already seen it, is “iRobot”. Love Will Smith!

  5. There for a while I was stuck in a “girly movie” or “romance” movie phase. But I like all types except horrors or gorey movies. We watch movies a good bit, but I’m not a good person to ask about movies because I quickly forget what the movie is about after it’s over.. And right now I can’t even think of the last movie I saw.

  6. Hmmm…sounds like what you have is either mommy brain, or pregnancy! hehe. Let’s see…My husband and I recently watched Prince Caspian, and it was great. Not a comedy, though.

  7. Well, I seem to have the same problem you do. I don’t want anything serious. Just bubble gum for the brain. And I haven’t always been like that. Haven’t seen anything worth recommending lately. Oh, and I voted for you for Best Humor Blog!

  8. Oh I definitely get stuck in a phase when it comes to movies too. My hubby hates it! Right now I'm in an indy film phase…which can be problematic, they're so hard to find! I watched Ghost Town not too long ago and thought it was really good too!

Marley & Me (if you haven't already seen it) was a good romantic comedy…probably one of my favorite more recent movies.

  9. Being a DUDE I have to say that I’m sick of comedy’s…..especially romantic comedies.(no offense contin kandy).
If your looking for seriously quality gripping movies I have to recommend Clint Eastwood films like Million Dollar Baby and Grand Torino. If Chris has suffered through one to many romantic comedies at the expense of your “phase” I would suggest a healthy dose of fast expensive cars, outrageously over the top action, and extremely well tailored tuxedos. The only place you can get that are the latest 007 James Bond Movies. Daniel Craig does a fantastic job! Obviously Bond has several character flaws that you’ll have to overlook but….for goodness sake he drives an Aston Martin!
If you insist on a comedy you must see Talladega Nights. The movie changed my life. The movie practically is a primer for how to properly say grace befor a meal, treat ones elders, and deal with the French.

  10. I watched Firehouse Dog yesterday and it was really relaxing and nice. Maybe a little to kiddie for you guys. How about the Harry Potter movies? LYB

  11. I like all types except Horror, although I am often forced to watch horror movies because my best friend loves them.
The last movie I saw at the Theater was The Mummy: Tomb of the dragon emporeor which was good.
I love Prince Caspian but I love the Narnia stories.
I haven’t really seen any comedies lately. I did watch Ironman over the weekend and it was good for the “comic book” hero genre.
